A glimpse into his genus

After watching the New Tenant, which jazzy so brilliantly made available all I could think was how can this man consistently give Oscars performances even though he never gets the deserved and proper recognition.

It boggles my mind that he isn't making millions of dollars and hounded by hordes of press on a daily basis. I tried to think of one role that he didn't pour his heart and soul into and couldn't come up with even one. If anyone can name a less than stellar performance then you have one up on me because I couldn't identify one.

Sometimes I wonder how he can continue to make film after film and not be at the very least annoyed with the lack of accolades and then I read this quote of his again and it answered my question for me.

"I'm not gonna make excuses for other actors. I'm just talking about myself. The good actors that I've met - I've met some of the best actors that we'll ever see - and I know for sure that we all have in common when we all look in each other's eyes, is that we're all struggling to achieve 100%. That's all I see when I see another artist. All of us are trying to achieve 100% in our work. That's all we struggle to do. We never do, but we never stop trying until the day we die. It's that struggle to achieve 100%, that's where our performance lies, that's what the audience gets. They get the struggle."

So we may never see him accept his well deserved Oscar but we will all be blessed with each of his performances, knowing that for us he has put his heart and soul into it and we will forever adore him for it!

  1. His "Genus" is Homo, as in Homo sapien, just like the rest of us. His "Genius" is a whole other issue! And spell-check is useful but not infallible.

  3. Great post, Jenz! And yes, we'll forever adore him. Say, how about covering our bodies with gold and hand him ourselves as "Oscar"?

I watched The New Tenants last night at 2am. Thanks again Jazzy for the link. God, he was gripping, wasn't he? Actually Genius, as you put it.
And thank God the spelling police don't hand of fines, because I'd be broke!

  5. And that's exactly why we love him - because he gives his best every time, strives for the unattainable 100%. That and he's the most handsome sexy GENUS GENIUS around!

  6. I have to admit that I never understood why some actors were so called good actors and get all the awards and others just didn't recognized at all.I just couldn't tell a difference, they acted all the same to me,but then I saw Vincent for the first time:and I knew what good acting was!You know, sometimes you see actors (like Tom Cruise, you can tell I am NO fan) in different movies but they act the same everytime: Same facial expressions, same pitch of voice, same behavior!
But with Vincent it's a whole other experience everytime.

  7. Great and very sincere post, Jenz. It is his amazing genius that I fell for first. (I'm a sucker for true talent, and his is the most brilliant and versatile out there.) But that being said, I LOVE Jazzy's idea! Think of how many life-size "Oscars" he'd have then!!!

Vincent will NEVER win an Oscar because he flat refuses to kiss Hollyweird's ass, and is WAY too independent in his choices of material.... Reasons 14,216/7 why I love him so very much ;0)

  9. As long as he knows we love him. Do you think he does?

  10. I imagine the reviews he gets from his audiences mean a hell of a lot more to him than any statuette..I hope so anyway, because he always gets brilliant reviews from me :-D

  13. Nice one there Jenz. I think as you point out the ting with Vincent is that he's not so interested in the money and the accolades as he is in doing a good job and enjoying it while he is doing so.

But yes, I sometimes still find myself thinking "Why isn't his mantlepiece covered in gold statuettes??"

  17. He's my favorite genius, all the time. And Genus - Genius whatever we all got your point and it was a heart felt & lovely post. God knows I cetainly have my moments.

Debra, it's always good to note these things. Since it was spelt correctly it wouldn't come up in spell check. Goodness knows I'm always thankfully when someone points out an unexpected error.

  19. Jazzy i will forever adore you, but you already know that but thanks again gorgeous!

Debra i am not upset and i did spell it wrong and truth is my spelling does stink so no harm no foul, it's all good with us vixens!

Leave it to me to be the first to step in it. At least you all know with me it's never boring!

  20. Thank you Artist and Jenz. I hate starting out on the wrong foot with a new crowd. The "genius" I was referring to in my original post must be a colloquialism from my neck of the woods. But I thought someone in this crowd might get it! ;-)

Vincent IS a fabulously talented actor who obviously does his homework for each role. I'm also impressed by his dedication to the Utah Meth Cops Project, a cause that hits close to home.
