Abu-Nuwas (756-815) was a famous Arabic/Persian poet. He even appears several times in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights. He wrote this letter:
I die of love for him, perfect in every way!
Lost in the strains of wafting music,
my eyes are fixed upon his delightful body,
and I do not wonder at his beauty.
His waist is a sapling,
his face a moon,
and loveliness rolls off his rosy cheek.
I die of love for you, but keep this secret:
The tie that binds us
is an unbreakable rope!

ReplyDeleteLovely poetry ... for a most lovely man! Keep up the good work, Jazzy! I think I've died and gone to heaven every time I see that cap of him shirtless in suspenders!
ReplyDeleteLovely poem and pics but I am sorry that I had one thought in my mind about the one of him as Howard (my favorite pic of the bunch - but then you knew that and put it there to tease me)!
ReplyDeleteHead back and mouth open in that field. OMG!
I wonder what he was thinking at that moment being a method actor and all!
That has got to be hands down THE MOST SATISFIED LOOK any of his characters has ever had on their/his face. Don't you think and wouldn't you want to be personally responsible for causing that look??
beautiful - my two ab fab favs - poetry and vdo - thank you
ReplyDeletejazzy unfortunately the photos got lost in transportation when I moved from blogger to wordpress, but below is the link to the poety I believed fitted so well with so many of vdo's characters... I found Edgar Allan Poe worked well with REH who I believe (2nd to Goren) is his best performance

Aww! Jazzy, what a fantastic post, I'm not a huge reader but I adore poetry and this is superb.
ReplyDeleteoh yes, Abu-Nuwas KNEW how to use words! and that he always made some errors grammatically in his poetry, makes him even more likable to me (guess why. lol).
ReplyDeleteglad you liked this post!
(ann, i emailed you the pix)
thanks so much for the pics jazzy
ReplyDeleteactually I could see them here, but thank you anyway, that was really sweet and thoughtful and I appreciate it very much
what I meant was that when I moved my blog from blogger to wordpress, my photos didn't appear with the poetry - I lost them!
boo hoo :>(
ann,
ReplyDeletewhat a pity you lost them!
anyway, the line "I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too" fits well at TWWW. it's one sad line but encouraging at once (if that makes sense)!?!
Very, very nice. I liked that a lot!
