I thought that the following article might be of interest to VDO fans.

Mobsters, Brooklyn, and Vincent D'Onofrio

April 26, 2009

What's not to love? That's what I thought when I bought tickets Friday for today's showing of The Narrows at the Charleston International Film Festival. I won't give anything away other than to say that it was better than I expected and I had high expectations. Justine and I stayed in our seats after the show for a Q&A session with the writer, Tatiana Blackington. Her script is an adaptation of Tim McLoughlin's novel Heart of the Old Country. So far the movie has made the festival circuit. It opens in a limited number of theaters on June 19th. It was shot with a digital camera and, because there is no actual film copy, it will be shown only in theaters that have digital projection. The version we saw today wasn't as HD as the release version will be so Justine and I plan on seeing it again if it comes back to Charleston.

Monday morning update: The Narrows won the jury award for Best Feature at the Gala last night.

Let's just hope it makes it into general release so we can ALL have a chance to see it. June 19th is still only the release date for the States....

  3. We've waited so long, I'd even be satisfied with a DVD release. THhugh VDO on the BIG screen does appeal for some reason...

  4. Thanks goodness, it will be playing at The Chicago International Film Festival ... but in OCTOBER!! LOL! Vincent is, of course, well worth the wait ... especially on the BIG SCREEN, as Val so astutely pointed out. If I have to all in sick at work, I will be there!!!

It looks like Vincent's character uses a cane?! Something else to be jealous of :)

  11. There is a local cinema that shows digital films, it's a smallish cinema, not one of the big mainstream players but they don't advertise very much, I've just joined their mailing list, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it somehow finds it's way here.

Yes Val, I agree VDO on the BIG screen :)

  12. I have no idea why he has a cane, but I will selflessly volunteer to rub, caress, kiss, and lick better whatever is hurting him...

I really do hope the movie hits mainstream. I have heard nothing but good things about it and amazing things about Vincent's performance.

And jazzy, who pissed in your cornflakes this morning??*LOL* Smile and have a little hope sweetie!! I mean look on the brightside, it could be 3098 before you get to see it.
*Sorry I'm in an insanely good mood today*

If the movie follows the book, Vincent's character has had an accident at work, and now can't work...I think; it's a while since I read it *digs out book to read again!*

  14. I'm hoping for a quick dvd release, cos I think it's the only way I'm going to get to see it :-(

The book is pretty good and I'm hoping the film sticks fairly closely to the storyline where Vincent's character is concerned

  16. @Jazzy

Well, that too.. Whatever will bring a smile to his face and make him yell out my name in ectasy. And of course ease the pain of his "injury".
