YOUR VERY FIRST TIME

It was 2004 and I had just relocated. The first night in my new home found me sitting on the floor surrounded by moving boxes. My feet were too tired to go out (Note: don't wear high heels when you carry furnitures), so I turned the TV on. They were broadcasting a new crime show, starring Vincent D'Onofrio, the actor I had been a fan of for 12 years.
And I thought to myself:
"Puh-leeeeease!! That sexy bastard who played Sgt. Randozza, Abbie Hoffman, Carl Stargher and all these other drool attack-causing guys can NEVER do a decent law-abiding Detective!"

That's when I saw Det. Robert 'Bobby' Goren for the very first time and he got me with his cleverness, charm, his smirky smile
and he was HOT as burning hell.

So I want you to do this for me if you will:
Everybody think back to YOUR very first time. Ahem, Bobby-Moment I mean.

Now, I'll give you a little while longer because I know some of you have to think back a little further than others . . . . . . .

  1. VDO sort of came at me from different angles in the early Spring of 2004. I had seen a flick called The Whole Wide World on HBO. Also, I was a die-hard Sex And The City fan, which was shown Sunday nights the same time LOCI aired. My oldest daughter kept telling me I needed to watch this show because I'd like the tall guy playing the detective, he was the actor in TWWW. But I don't like L&O or SVU, so why should I watch this show?? One day, I switched channels anyway, and saw the tall guy, he was in an epi (apparently a re-run) with a blonde lady with a Brit accent. The two had so much chemistry, I instantly loved the show. By the end of the show, I was in L O V E with Det Goren AND the actor Vincent D'Onofrio. :D

  2. He had me from the very first episode (titled "One"). Watching him move around like a panther in heat drove me wild. He was so seductive, powerful, quirky and clever. He took up the whole screen, he was bigger than life. Once I started watching the show I couldn't take my eyes off of him. I can't imagine TV without him. Sob***

  3. I think my first time was in 2005. Again, it was an episode already in syndication (on Bravo or USA), and there was nothing else on so I decided to watch. I quickly became entranced by this lovely specimen of manhood, and from there, tuned in for every remaining episode of season 4 and became addicted to all the syndicated reruns. The rest, as they say, is history!

  4. Great stories! Here's mine, which is sort of along the same lines as mauigirl's. I run all the time on the treadmill (5 miles/day) and would time my runs to the mothership. Then I moved my runs earlier in the day, so I figured I'd give LOCI (USA repeats) a try because, thanks to SATC and early mothership, I thought Chris Noth was sexy. About two runs in, the opening credits showed VDO. I said, "oh, the 'Mystic Pizza' guy. ... don't know if I'll like this," as I was used to Logan. Then I watched Goren for a while, almost fell off the treadmill twice because he was so distractingly smokin' hot, and proceeded to order the DVDs so I could always run to Bobby. Sorry, Logan.

  5. I think it was around 2004, and it was an accident. We'd watched CSI and instead of changing channels we left the tv alone. LOCI came on and I was entranced by Bobby from the second he came on screen :-)

The rest of it is history

  6. I ran into this wonderful guy in August 2004,watching the promoted spin-off of my beloved TV show L&O (I watched the show since 1992).
At first I wasn't sure what he was all about.I was used to those "old fashioned" detectives and he was something brand new to my eyes!
So I watched the whole epi and by the end credits I found myself in love with our quirky, smart and clever Detective Goren.
So you can call me a fan since day "ONE"...

  7. I remember when I heard that there was going to be a third spin-off of Law and Order, my first thought was...Another one? I'm not going to watch it. Then one Saturday night I turned the TV to USA, (god I hate that network now) They were replaying 'One' and I thought...Hey, it's that Fabulous guy from Homicide! I wasn't attracted to him then, but now...DAMN, he's Gorgeous.

    And I was hooked.

Once upon a time, I used to go to the movies EVERY week, that means if it was released in the UK, I would have seen it. I remember 'FMJ' very well because it disturbed me SO much, it was filed under 'Never Again!', a bargain I STILL haven't broken with myself to this day.

Anyways, probably some time in 2004, I put the TV on and fell into a new detective show - well, it was 'new' to me anyway - and discovered I really liked it. I watched some more, enjoying the slightly 'off-kilter' detective. The only thing that annoyed me was no one EVER seemed to address 'him by name! Finally, I heard him introduce himself as Detective Goren, & I know now the episode was 'Homo Homini Lupis'

Well, to quote the old song 'I didn't know I was looking for love until I found you'(Vincent!) but suddenly, like a bolt of the blue, I heard myself saying out loud to him 'You're not only a wonderful actor, you're CUTE too!!

Desperate for more visual-stimulii, and ANY information about this actor I'd 'found' (ahem!), I started hunting for other stuff he'd done. I bought myself a computer, something I'd always vowed I'd NEVER do, on the grounds I sat in front of one all day at work, and started checking out VDO-World. When I realised most of his work was only available from the States, I bought a multi-region DVD player (Please note, I was completely besotted - still am!!!) and imported my first-ever DVD's....and the rest, as they say, is V-history ;0)

So, unbidden, dear Vincent tangled himself up in my heart and my soul and 'made' me love him. Along the way, he also gave me new and wonderful friends, something I thank him for about a dozen times a day.

  9. I found the show in 2003. My first reaction when I heard there was to be a third L&O show was like Tess's - I'm not going to bother. But for want of anything else to watch, I switched over to the second episode, which was Art. I was mesmerised - there was this giant bear of a man who looked like he sould be playing a gangster, but who knew about fine art. It was so incongruous. I was hooked. I'm a sucker for a big, good-looking, charismatic guy, so of course I was soon obsessed. I was in the middle of typing my family tree up on to my computer, and after I'd done my Sunday stint, I'd treat myself to some V-hunting time. I never looked back.

  10. i wish i could give a definitive date - it must have been after my divorce when i got control of the remote control - i remember seeing a guy in a grey suit moreorless occupying the whole screen, he stood there flicking through a folder, gave a sideways glance, opened his mouth and his voice really grabbed my attention - i thought, "who are you?" and i was smitten - i didn't surf the net for more information until 2005 and then I quickly bought every dvd amazon had to offer and entered the world of blogdom and likeminded ladies (and gentleman) - if my children watch me watching him they see my eyes dilate and say, "hey isn't that your guy?"

who would believe such a thing was possible - falling in love and lust with a star of the silver screen - initially it was a relief to know i wasn't the only one affected and inflicted, but then i realised i have to share him... hmmmm!!! :>)
