Everyone who knows me (Coral), should know that I do like men who do wear make-up. Right from a young age I was facinated by the likes of Boy George and Adam Ant. Later getting into Bowie's 'Ziggy Stardust/Ashes To Ashes' look.
It can make a man look beautiful (if applied properly) and I appreciate the skill that a make-up artist has, knowing what colours go, and how to enhance features (while covering up blemishes and faults).
Drag Queens in particular have amazing make-up artistry skills (where they have to turn their masculine features into something more refined and feminine).
I must add, and I have got this from an ex-friend who worked as a photographer's assistant:
"Men Make-up artists, particularly Gay Men, are the best in the business. As they are perfectionists in their art. You can ask them to mix a colour, and it has to perform a certain way in different lighting, and believe me, they will manage it."
Though not many people realise, many men wear make-up and it's not the obvious eyeliner and lipgloss looks. All television and film stars wear stage make-up. Yes, even Trevor MacDonald wore slap. While Tony Blair hit the headlines, with his make-up bill on his last election capaign. Does this mean that 'Dubya' (George W Bush) partakes in powering under the hot studio lights?
While one is not bothered getting 'up close and personal' with a chap in slap, many women will say: "I find it a real turn off!" - I've got news for you, all you George Clooney, Keanu, Tom Cruise loving females... They all wear make-up!
Though the history of men in make-up goes back even further to the 18th and 19th century, where powdered wigs and heavily made up faces was the order of the day. This did have a practical use, as the white powder and beauty spots was an excellent camouflage for smallpox scars.
Plus there's Metrosexual man (the male who is in touch with his feminine side) who likes to take care of is looks. By a cleanse, tone, moisturize regime, while having manicures and pedicures.
Brian Molko stated a reason for his make-up wearing:
"It's not just the androgyny image thing, I wear it just for the same reason women do, to make myself more attractive."
Some women have said that they wouldn't like a man who spent more time in the bathroom than them or borrowing their cosmetics. I'd prefer that, than a man who just couldn't be arsed about his appearance. God, that would also mean a lack of personal hygiene! Yuck!!
I agree with it, let a man be a dandy (think of the peacocks!) Those who are into 'The Rocky Horror Show' always find 'Frank n Furter' a sex god. I've seen women drool after him... as this the make-up and stockings seem to scream: "DANGER, REBEL, SEX!" Which draws female attention like moths to a flame.
Maybe I'm just artistic, maybe I'm a freak, maybe I am a free-thinker, or just 'one of a kind'?
Lads go for it! It takes courage to reach for the lippy!

~waves to niece~ Hi Coral. You uncle and I have been married for 14 years (I think) today, but so far, I have never seen him wearing makeup.
ReplyDeleteI was a girlie in the 80s, when EVERYONE wore makeup. I had the biggest 'thing' for David Sylvian and David Bowie, amongst others. I can remember older people at the time being shocked, as they seemed to see it as an outright statement of homosexuality or some such bollocks, but to me it seems perfectly normal.
The men's cosmetics and associated toiletries industry nowadays is worth billions of dollars.
Vincent D'Onofrio has an incredible face already, but even he seems to benefit from a bit of slap.
~waves to lozzie's niece~ (what a likable family you are)
ReplyDeletethe first time when i saw a man who was without makeup i was like: hmmm...what's wrong with this picture?
although i have to say that it's a prejudice that every drag-queen knows how to use make-up well; the same with women.
P.S. bowie rules!
I have no problems with or without makeup. Loved Ziggy Stardust, too! David Bowie is a beautiful man. :-D
ReplyDeleteVincent could be with or without and he's still drop dead gorgeous to me!
It does depend on the man and how he wears the stuff. I agree about Tim Curry done up as Frank'N'Furter, sexy as hell. (I went to a Rocky Horror party once years ago, and one guy looked terrific. Then he took off his wig...)
ReplyDeleteIn 1972 I was at University in the north of England, and a new student turned up for Freshers' Week wearing makeup. It caught on in no time. I even put makeup on my husband for a college disco, and his best friend didn't recognise him.
It would be a shame to 'hide' Vincent's face under a load of slap, BUT sometimes - as with Valentino - it just enhanced the natural-born-gorgeousness of the man; and you'd never mistake Vincent for anything but an Alpha Male - even when he's in drag ;0)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Val. It depends on the guy. And it's not just about whether they "need" it or not, but what the makeup does to change or enhance the guy's appearance. I am a huge fan of Billie Joe Armstrong of the band Green Day, and one of the first things I found MOST attractive about him was the eyeliner. On HIM, it looks fantastic! I've dabbled in it myself, and sometimes use a bit of "slap," but ever so sparingly. Usually to cover those dreadful under-the-eye circles or a stubborn pimple.

ReplyDeleteJazzy you made a nice point!!
ReplyDeleteSome many can pull even makeup, and look great in it!!I wear make up,when I need to go some whehe!!I like to play with it,but I ussual I like to be makeup free!!
I wouldn't like the man to wear so much more make up,more than a woman, and even worry more than a woman!!Just Jazzy like you say, just enaf dandy, and plus just enaf manly!!
I just want to say,I have very open and liberal views, and I need to feel that the man is not girlyer than me!!
purplevixen, the post is from Coral but not from me. she will appreciate your comment (all comments on here, of course)!
ReplyDeleteand i dare to say that no man could be as girlish as you are. lol, even if they wanted!
I'm glad that Coral will like our comments!!
ReplyDeleteYou think Jazzy??If you say so,I will take your word for it,I do belive in you!!
i am playing with avatars today, which is a proof how girlish i am ;P
ReplyDeletebtw i would be lost without lipsticks - guess i have more than 50 (all of them got the same color).
YOU Jazzzy 50 lipsticks??!!A girl after my own hart!!;)I thougth I was the only one which likes lipstick too much!!I have in many colors,I buy them in all shades of pink, red, purple, and for partys white, blue, green!!;)And they are:fluid, trasparent, solid and some sparkly!!I don't excatly the how many I have Jazzy, but I thinbk so far there around 10-12lipsticks!!;)
ReplyDeleteThat picture of him sent me reeling a bit. It is quite lovely... to keep things PG.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, VDO looks gorgeous with or without makeup. But personally, I would prefer him sans makeup and in the raw. Just a smile will do for me. Actually, that's how I prefer all my men. No cologne either, I think a man smells best au natural. I love that musky scent they get at the end of the day. Oh dear, I go too far.
ReplyDeletetrust me, it is almost impossible to go too far on this blog ;P
ReplyDeletei agree, a man's smell is stimulating! imo he should use perfume at day, and testosterone-fragrance at nite.
Jazzy your comments always give me a chuckle. I agree with you, definitely testosterone in the evening, preferably emanating from one man - Mr. D'Onofrio. That's what missing from my life there's not enough testosterone in it.
